PARTNERS IN WATCHFUL WAITING
At Advanced Prostate Cancer Institute, we realize that each patient is an individual and must be treated as such. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to prostate cancer care. That is why for some patients we recommend active surveillance instead of more aggressive treatment.
Active surveillance involves keeping a close watch on prostate cancer through regular exams and prostate specific antigen (PSA) blood testing, instead of radiation therapy, surgery, cryotherapy or other treatment options. Common candidates for active surveillance include those with certain small-volume tumors that are not an immediate threat, elderly or seriously ill men who would not benefit from aggressive treatment and others with low-risk cancers.
By carefully monitoring the patient’s condition over time, the Advanced team remains ready to administer immediate, effective treatment should it ever become necessary.
